a-project is continuing to develop logics of interior surfacing and the articulation of associated depth within a panelised grid construction. These constructions are formed of surfaces and planes within multiple iterations of a single 3-dimensional “room” construction. The spaces are constructed as an involving manipulation of grid with an associated interrelationship of component typologies occupying the respective planar elements. Developing a rigour and flexibility of spatial operations that respond to localised manipulations and contingent implications of “grid”, and the potential of “component” typologies within this grid.

a-project is developing these “room” studies as an ongoing framework that suggests multiple possibilities for spatial definition and occupation. In this instance continuing to form an evolving logic of a single “room”, and investigating the spatial potential of diverse reconstructions of the 3d grid envelope and the associated component iterations / serial deviations affecting floor, wall, ceiling and opening.

a-project is developing the application of variable grid constructions as a literal “field” construction – where the multiple reconstructions of grid and the digitally controlled contingent descriptions of spatial arrangements are applied to a “room” of external distribution and planting arrangement.

The external “room” assemblies develop as flexible fields of elemental distribution that respond to localised manipulations and contingent implications of “grid”. The potential constructions and typologies of elemental distribution reflect varying degrees of formal complexity.

a-project is developing these “external” studies as an ongoing framework that suggests multiple possibilities for elemental distribution and occupation. In this instance forming an evolving logic of a series of planting compartment sequences and arrangements. These constructions investigate the holistic potential of diverse constructions of distribution logics and field “operations”.

a-project is developing the application of manipulated grid and component systems in the context of a board floor configuration. The flooring is an application of the grid and component research and is shown in consistent materiality to emphasise the flexibility and variability of the basic grid and component system. These flexible “floors” can both be responsive and controlled with specific contingent sensitivities and algorithmic serial distortions that determine the grid, boundary and component arrangements. These “floors” will be tested within projects at a variety of scales that are responsive to local contingent variables.

a-project is developing the possibilities of these board manipulations that are then subject to the disturbances and interruptions of context and the problematic situation of specific programmes and uses. The floors are shown in an abstracted and isolated condition, but with the capacity to be applicable within individual “rooms” as composite floor configurations or alternatively translated into larger scales of field conditions and structures / envelopes.

The “tiled” floor is an application of the grid and component research and is shown in binary materiality to emphasise the flexibility and variability of the basic grid and component system. These “floors” are moderated by external boundaries or internal interstitial seams as well as the specific parameters of material distribution and component tile arrangements. a-project is developing approaches to the conditional construction of “openings” within a grid framework. Proximity, area, scale and serial algorithmic control are tested within a grid framework to allow specific logics of openings within a surface construction and the associated manipulation of a field. These “openings” within the grid are to be tested within projects at a variety of scales that are responsive to contingent factors which translate the principles of interrupting a surface – these factors manipulating the properties and applications of the aperture.
